Jörg Schneider, Tenor

Austrian tenor Jörg Schneider has been a principal artist at the Wiener Volksoper since 2007.

He will be singing the ITALIAN SINGER in „Capriccio“ of R. Strauss in the Theater an der Wien , then in the summer of 2016 the SCHUBERT in the „Dreimäderlhaus“ in Baden bei Wien.

In September 2016 he will be giving his role debut as HERODES in „Salome“ of R. Strauss in the Stadttheater Klagenfurt.

Further he will be singing the IRO in „Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in patria“ at Theatre des Champs-Elysées and further his debut at the Bayrische Staatsoper as TANZMEISTER in „Ariadne auf Naxos“

In the summer of 2014 he was singing the role of OSKAR in the world premiere of „Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald“ at the Bregenzer Festspiele.

At the Stadttheater Klagenfurt he did EISENSTEIN „Die Fledermaus“ at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt in a new production by Olivier Tambosi.

In September 2012 he made his debut as IRO „Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria“ at Theater an der Wien (conductor: Christophe Rousset, director: Claus Guth).

He sang DAVID in „Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“ Bunka Kaikan Theatre Tokyo, BELMONTE in „Die Entführung aus dem Serail“ Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, as well as FLAMMEND in „Capriccio“ House of art Budapest .

Jörg Schneider was born in Wels. He received his first musical education as a member of the Vienna Boy Choir (Wiener Sängerknaben), and studied singing with Prof. Elfriede Obrowsky in Vienna.

In 1995 he became principal artist at Staatstheater Wiesbaden . From 1997 to 2000 he was principal artist at Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf. His most important recent guest appearances were his debut at Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona as LEUKIPPOS in „Daphne“, his debut as NARRABOTH in „Salome“ at Wiener Staatsoper, BELMONTE in „Die Entführung aus dem Serail “ for Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (with Zubin Mehta). Other guest appearances in his successful career have included: Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Real Madrid, Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Théâtre De La Monnaie Brüssel, Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro Bellini di Catania, Teatro Regio Di Parma, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale Ferrara, Seefestspiele Mörbisch, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as well as touring productions to Japan and China

In concert the artist appeared at: Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Wiener Musikverein, Wiener Konzerthaus, Brucknerhaus Linz, Philharmonie Dresden, Radio France and Concertgebow Amsterdam in works such as Haydn „Die Schöpfung“ , Schumann „Dichterliebe“ , J.S. Bach „Johannes Passion“ und „Weihnachtsoratorium“, Mozart „Requiem“ , Verdi „Messa da Requiem“, Berlioz „Te Deum“ und Mendelssohn-Bartholdy „Walpurgisnacht and Lobgesang“.

Jörg has worked with conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Dennis Russell Davis, Edo de Waart, Peter Schneider, Bertrand de Billy, Pinchas Steinberg, Theodor Guschlbauer, Christoph Prick, Gustav Kuhn, and Semyon Bychkow.

The artist has recorded ALFRED in „Die Fledermaus“ for Nightingale Classics (with Edita Gruberova) on CD. Other recordings include STANISLAUS „Der Vogelhändler“ for Seefestspiele Mörbisch and Marquese Sebastiani in „Der lustige Krieg“ are just some of his recordings.
